POLICE OFFICER

The Newton Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. Applicants may apply in accordance with the rules as set forth by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.

Minimum Qualifications

In order to be appointed as a Newton Police Officer, applicants must meet the following minimum standards:

  • United States Citizen and a resident of New Jersey with a valid New Jersey Driver’s License
  • Between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Read, write, and speak the English language well and intelligently
  • In sound body and of good health
  • Of good moral character, with no convictions for a criminal offense involving moral turpitude
  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent

PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATOR

The Newton Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of part-time Public Safety Telecommunicators. Applications are available at the Newton Police Department or may be downloaded and printed. A background check is required on all applicants.

The Communications Center is operated by civilian personnel who are required to attain certain certifications and levels of training before being qualified to operate the communications desk. At a minimum an individual receives;

  • 40 Hours Basic Public Safety Telecommunicator Course
  • 32 Hours Emergency Medical Dispatch
  • 8 Hours CPR/AED Training

SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD

The Town of Newton is accepting applications for the position of Substitute School Crossing Guards. Starting rate is $15.00 Hr. Applicants must be available to work Monday-Friday, from 7:15 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and from 2:25 p.m. – 3:40 p.m..
