Alarm Registration Required

All fire and burglary alarm systems within the Town of Newton are required to be registered with the Police Department under Town ordinance. Registrations must be renewed annually. Emergency contact information is also required to be furnished annually and kept current. Changes in emergency contacts must be furnished to the Police Department no later than 10 days following the applicable change.

Registration Fees

The registration fee for a residential alarm permit is $25.00 annually, no pro-rating, all registrations expire 12/31.

The registration fee for a commercial alarm permit is $50.00 annually, no pro-rating, all registrations expire 12/31.

The annual renewal fee for both residential and commercial alarm permits is $25.00. Any person who fails to obtain a permit on or before January 31^st of each year shall pay a surcharge of $25.00.

False Alarms

A false alarm is described as an alarm activated for which there is no evidence of an attempted unauthorized entry or for which there exists evidence of an equipment failure or evidence of inadvertence on the part of any permittee, agents, servants and employees requiring a response by police, for or other municipal agency. False alarms shall include actuations caused by malfunctioning of the alarm or other relevant equipment but shall not include alarm actuations caused by natural forces or other extraordinary circumstances not subject to control by the permittee.
